Union minister Nitin Gadkari has said diversification of agriculture into energy sector so as to boost farmers’ income and reduce the country’s reliance on petroleum products, is imperative, reports Outlook.
The minister was speaking in an event – Rural and Farm Resurgence: Road to Prosperity organized by India Foundation for Rural Development in collaboration with National Cooperative Development Corporation in New Delhi.
The diversified farming will offer farmers multiple options as well as save huge money the country is spending on crude import bills, the union minister noted. Gadkari underlined the critical role of innovation, entrepreneurship, technology and research in farming.
The union minister advocated organic farming and stressed on the need for bamboo cultivation, fisheries and honey production.
