Worli Koliwada Nakhawa Fisheries Cooperative Society and Worli Machhimar Sarvoday Cooperative Society have opposed the coastal road project likely to be executed by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation arguing this will block fishermen’s access to sea lanes and thus affect their livelihood, reports Hindu.
Both cooperative organizations petitioned the High Court and the court has asked the municipal corporation to respond soon.
The fisheries cooperatives have 965 members — men and women — as well as 190 boats. The corporation is constructing an eight-lane, 9.98-km-long coastal road, which will connect Marine Drive and Kandivili.
