Tamil Nadu’s fishermen’s organizations have called upon Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to help fishermen cooperative societies function effectively and stop collecting additional money from them under the National Fishermen Savings-cum-Relief Scheme, reports Hindu.
Under this scheme, each fisherman contributes ?1,500 and the government makes a contribution of Rs 3,000 per head.
A source is quoted as saying a similar scheme is implemented for fisherwomen too.
All Fishermen Association president Nanjil Ravi Puyal said the amount had to be collected in monthly installments but was being done in one go.
