Hindu reports farmers and employees are delighted about the prospects of crushing season beginning at the Anakapalle V.V. Ramana Cooperative Sugar Factory (Tummapala sugar factory) in Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh a town famous for its jiggery market but are in a stew about the factory would soon be privatised.
Scores of farmers and workers staged recently a protest before the Collectorate demanding reopening of the factory as they worried officials and MDs of sugar factories of coastal districts are likely to meet taking a decision about privatisation.
Meanwhile, the CITU-affiliated Workers and Employees’ Union submitted a memorandum to the district authorities. A sum of Rs. 3 crore was due from the factory to the sugarcane farmers and hundreds of employees had been denied wages for the last several months, the union leaders claimed.
