Police took scores of farmers into custody for locking down the premises of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Bank at Thirupayathankudi in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.
Farmers were protesting against denial of crop insurance settlement pending since 2016-17, reports Hindu. Nearly two hundred farmers are affected by the delay in the crop insurance settlement.
Sources say since farmers’ repeated appeals for settlement had fallen on deaf ears they were left with no choice but to protest in the way they did. There is tension prevailing in the area, sources add.
