Media reports say the Karnataka government will soon release Rs 900 crore under the farm loan waiver scheme that will benefit 1.5 lakh farmers in the state.
The HD Kumaraswamy govt. had started the scheme in 2018 waiving loans worth Rs 7,417 crore for 15.5 lakh farmers. However the state government stopped waiving loans due to the model code of conduct, announced by the election commission of India.
The information provided by the state govt. confirms that loans worth Rs. 3,488 crore in the cooperative bank sector have been waived for 8.1 lakh farmers.
