Maharashtra govt has called upon the Central govt to integrate the cooperative banking sector in the banking app for digital transactions to avoid a setback to the rural economy in Maharashtra and other states, reports Indian Express.
The Maharashtra chief minister was recently participating in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
Modi had constituted a chief ministers’ committee to prepare a report on enforcement of cashless transactions post demonetization.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said almost 80 percent of the financial operations in the rural areas are through cooperative banks and any attempt to neglect the cooperative banking sector from digital banking would harm the rural economy.
Maharashtra has 35 DCCBs, with 5,000 branches. The deposits of farmers and villagers in these banks are estimated to be more than Rs 3 lakh crore.
