Ethanol producing co-ops welcome price-hike

Free Press Journal reports Ethanol manufacturers in Maharashtra, especially those hailing from the cooperative sector, have welcomed the central govt’s decision to raise ethanol price derived from different sugarcane based raw materials under the EBP Program for the 2022-23 sugar season.

Ethanol is a by-product of sugar mills. Its production cycle is from December 1 to November 30. From December 2021, Maharashtra has so far produced 75.88 crore litres of ethanol, and it will increase to 116 crore litres by November 30 this year.

However, it is said Cooperative Sugar Factories would have been happier if the central govt. had increased the price of ethanol from heavy molasses by Rs 2.50 per litre instead of the rise of Rs 1.65 per litre.
