Free Press Journal reports the Maharashtra government has once again postponed the elections to thousands of cooperative societies to September this year. Earlier, in March the govt. had postponed the elections citing the corona crisis.
Of the 25,000 cooperative bodies in the state, there are 21 district central cooperative banks, urban cooperative banks and development societies and 25 cooperative sugar factories.
However, minister of cooperation Balasaheb Patil said the sitting members on the boards of these cooperative bodies will continue to function without any reduction in their powers.
