In a significant development, Nagadhiraj Dutta, Treasurer of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Administrative Board of Tripura State Cooperative Bank.
The board, which assumed charge on Thursday, includes Vice-Chairperson Ms. Uttara Debbarma and three other members namely Kanulal Majumder, Ms. Sabnam Debbarma and Prabal Chakraborty.
The appointments, though officially for a two-month period, are expected to extend into a full five-year term, as widely speculated within cooperative and political circles.
The move comes after a prolonged absence of leadership in the bank, as the term of the former board expired on June 9, 2024. For over six months, the bank had been functioning without a governing body, leading to challenges in decision-making and operations.
Expressing his commitment to the role, Dutta said, “I consider it my duty to uplift the Tripura State Cooperative Bank. Holding this responsibility requires dedication every day and at all times,”he said.
The newly formed board is expected to address pressing issues and implement policies to improve the bank’s efficiency and outreach, particularly in rural and cooperative sectors across Tripura.
With these appointments, expectations are high for a revitalized approach to cooperative banking in the state, aligning with the broader developmental agenda of the government.
Tripura State Cooperative Bank is having a business mix of more than Rs 6200 crore and earned a net profit of Rs 27.95 crore as on 31st March 2024.
