Chhattisgarh based Durg District Cooperative Bank, which was in news in the wake of misappropriation of funds, is now hogging the media headlines for all positive reasons, as it earned a gross profit of Rs 140 crore in the 2023-24 FY.
The profit of the bank is Rs 40 crore higher in comparison to previous year. It bears recall that former Chairman of Durg District Cooperative Bank and a known face in cooperative circles Pritpal Belchandan was arrested last year.
Belchandan has been the Chairman of Durg District Central Cooperative Bank for 20 years.He has been accused of embezzlement of crores of rupees during his tenure as the Chairman of Durg DCCB.
While releasing the financial figures on Wednesday, the bank Administrator and District Collector Ms. Richa Prakash Chaudhary announced, “The bank’s deposits in the financial year 2023-24 stood at Rs 5971.69 crore. The bank performed well during the year”, she said.
The bank has come into the ‘A’ grade category and has become the first bank in the state for doing full computerization of 8 primary level co-ops.
