Dr. Nandini Azad, President of WWF & ICNW has once again been elected to the Board of International Raiffeisen Union (IRU) Board, doing India proud. It was in 2018 when she first got elected to the IRU, perhaps the oldest co-operative body in the world.
WWF & ICNF are co-op entities active in southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Jaya Arunachalam, Padma Awardee and mother of Dr Azad was a pioneering co-operator from South.
The IRU is a prestigious worldwide association of national cooperative organisations and it is built upon the foundational ideas of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen, widely regarded as the ‘Father of Cooperatives.’
With 53 member organisations spanning 33 countries across the globe, including Switzerland, Austria, France, Netherlands, Kenya, and India, IRU plays a pivotal role in advancing cooperative ideals and practices on a global scale. NCUI President Dileep Sanghani had also gone to Germany to attend the meeting.
