The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a monetary penalty on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Urban Co-operative Bank based in Nagpur in exercise of the powers vested in it.
The UCB was faulted for violation of the provisions of the BR Act (AACS) (Section 20) relating to ‘Prohibition of banks from granting any loan or advance to any of its Directors’ and the directives and guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India on violation of Operational Instructions issued by RBI, non-compliance with KYC and AML guidelines, non-conduct of migration audit and non-submission of satisfactory compliance to Inspection Report 2017.
The Reserve Bank of India had issued two show cause notices to the bank, in response to which the bank submitted a written reply to one show cause notice only.
After considering the facts of the case and the bank’s reply in the matter, the Reserve Bank came to the conclusion that the violations were substantiated and warranted imposition of penalty.
