Over 502 milk cooperative societies in Dindigul district have gone into liquidation over the years due to poor management, lack of members, and competition from private dairy companies, reports the New Indian Express.
Of 755 registered societies, 178 supply milk to Aavin, 75 are dormant, and 502 have had no transactions. Delayed payments push farmers to other societies.
The Cooperative Department aims to revive struggling societies, recently helping two recover in the last year.
