Indian Express reports DCCBs in Maharashtra have had more advantages than their nationalized opposite numbers under the loan waiver scheme announced by the BJP government some time ago.
Under the scheme pending crop loans up to Rs 1.50 lakh were to be waived for individual farmers, while an incentive of Rs 25,000 was announced for those who repay their loans regularly.
The scheme involves a total amount of Rs. 34,000 crore. Sources say this will go a long way in reducing indebtedness among farmers and thus removing a leading cause of farmer suicide in the state.
