The Common Service Centre, a special purpose vehicle under the Ministry of Electronics and IT is planning to set up 6,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). It has asked prospective candidates for the same.
CSE has promised to help submit the proposals to NABARD and SFAC, two govt agencies tasked with the assignment of help open FPOs. It bears recall that NCDC has also begun helping people to set up FPOs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that farmers should have the storage facilities near their villages. He called for the improvement of the system of taking the produce from the fields to processing units and emphasized that hand holding of these units be done by the FPOs.
The Government aims at floating 10,000 FPOs in the country and various agencies are working on the project.
