Times of India reports a BSP MLA in Rajasthan who is in judicial custody in connection with an honour killing case, has been charged with defrauding people in the name of high returns on saving plans with his cooperative credit society. Police say on a court order, an FIR has been registered for cheating and embezzlement.
The manager and cashier of Multi State Cooperative Credit Society, Anupgarh had lodged a complaint with the local judicial magistrate. Six others are also involved in the fraud.
It is worth mentioning that the same cooperative society was being run in other states including Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, many people fell into the trap when the directors promised hefty returns on interest for various kinds of saving accounts with the societies.
