Getting Prime Minister’s endorsement is not for nothing. Renu Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society from the North East which had set-up a stall in the Craft Mela in Surajkund in Haryana evinced substantial customers’ interest in its products.
Supported by Nabarad our cooperative society is perhaps the only cooperative society that showcased their products including Kauna craft, saree, shawls, kitchen set, cushion cover, bed cover, dining liner, ladies bag, curtain, laundry bag and other products in this mela”, said Renu Devi, Secretary of the cooperative while talking to this correspondent.
It bears recall that this is again the only cooperative society from Manipur that had received accolades and awards from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Laxman Rao Inamdar centenary celebrations organized by Sahakar Bharati in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi last year.
Renu said “Our stall no is 750, we have got a good response from Mela visitors who are buying our products”.
The Mela was organized by the Haryana Tourism Department from February 2-18.
The society was established with only 130 members in 1992. The Society had received financial help of Rs1.8 lakh from Manipur The Sate Cooperative Bank in 1995 and National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) had given about Rs 20 lakh in 2005.
