HP Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the second phase of the Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) for Una district in the state, reports The Tribune. The National Cooperative Development Corporation has given Rs 25 crore for the second phase.
While presiding over the concluding function of the Cooperative Week celebrations at Mehatpur-Basdehra, the chief minister talked about the history of the country’s cooperative movement and said the first cooperative society in the country was set up in 1892 in Panjawar village of Una district.
The chief minister informed that as of today 4,847 cooperative societies are working in the state with a membership of over 17 lakh people and a share capital of Rs 490 crores.
The working capital of these societies is 42,863 crores of rupees, the chief minister said.
Prominent people including Cooperatives and Education minister Suresh Bhardwaj were present on the occasion.
