The investigation in a suspected case of malware and cyber-attack on the country’s second largest urban cooperative bank Cosmos Bank is moving well with Bank’s own forensic investigation having almost neared its completion, says UCB’s sources.
It bears recall that besides filing an FIR with police and Cyber cell, Cosmos Bank had also at its own end, appointed a professional forensic agency to investigate the malware attack.
The investigation agency which was to submit its report in a few days regarding the modus operandi of the Malware attack is almost done with the job. But UCB is exercising precaution not to divulge the same, fearing weakening of investigation being done by cyber police.
It bears recall that the cooperative bank lodged an FIR saying Rs 80.5 crore were initially transferred to a foreign bank in 14,849 transactions of the debit card, and another Rs 13.9 crore transferred in a SWIFT transaction.
The only consolation was it was a malware attack on the payment gateway of VISA/Rupay Debit Card, and not on the CBS of the bank, the customers’ account and its balances are not at all affected, Cosmos Bank clarified.
