Corporate farming would be history: Shah

Advocating strongly for cooperative farming, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that a robust agriculture marketing network made possible through cooperatives could render the idea of Corporate farming obsolete.

Shah was speaking during a National Conference on “Role of Cooperatives in Agricultural Marketing” in Bhopal, organized by the agri giant NAFED.

Exhorting Nafed to take the lead, the Union Minister said that it should not concentrate only on 900 PACs it has adopted, rather it should focus on all 63000 PACs active in the country.

Shah assured the Nafed team of all the help in this effort. “The Nafed team should come to the ministry, we will work out a strategy to achieve this”, he assured. Marketing skills at the level of PACs and other federations, transparency in dealings and availability of an exclusive co-op export house would help us achieve our goal, said the Minister.

“We have been holding discussions for the entire year on various co-op issues and now the things have come to an actionable stage. You would soon notice a new wave of energy sweeping the entire co-op sector”, promised the Minister in Bhopal.
