Media reports say that Gujarat Congress has accused the BJP government of privatizing Amul, by allowing the entry of private players in the country’s dairy business. “Never ever was a middle man allowed in Amul set up and that is why it is so unique”, former Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia said.
A Congress party source is quoted alleging that GCMMF is being forced to take over a private milk procession unit in Porbandar district under pressure from BJP politicians. The name of former minister Babu Bokhiria is taken in this context.
However, Bokhiria, who is a BJP MLA from Porbandar has denied the allegation. “I challenge Modhwadia to conduct an inquiry through a sitting judge of the high court or Supreme Court. He should stop levelling vague charges”, Ahmadabad Mirror quotes Bokhiria saying.
