The Central Government has no plans to bring cooperative societies under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, as the law applies only to public authorities, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed in response to a query in the Rajya Sabha.
However, he highlighted that under the amended Section 106 of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, which was revised in 2023, a provision has been introduced requiring all multi-state cooperative societies to appoint a Cooperative Information Officer.
This officer will be responsible for providing members of the society with information related to its affairs and management.
The move aims to enhance transparency and accountability within multi-state cooperative societies while ensuring that cooperative members have access to crucial information about their institutions.

Regards,
Please tell me the process of contact with CIO
Please Sir Regulize the staffs of cooperative societies under Government in every state and bring the cadre rule. So that More Transparency will occur.
If the cooperative societies do not appoint a CIO Chief Information Officer, then who is responsible for appointing a Chief Information Officer as soon as possible (Block Cooperative Extension Officer, District Cooperative Officer, Joint Registrar, Registrar Sir)? Please clarify instead of giving incomplete news because in reality all the above officers seem to be committed while working only for the cooperative societies (the reason given is that the associations of cooperative societies go to the High Court and Supreme Court, so only the decisions taken by the cooperative societies are correct and all the above officers will only speak in favour of the cooperative societies).
Please let me know how to aooroach CIO.
Can I lodge a complaint to CIO against a cooperative bank who has by over ruling RBI instructions committed a fraudulent act for which FIR has been registered by the Police authorities.
Thanks
