University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore is trying to do something new. It intends using the milk producers’ cooperative society network (MPCS) to develop a model for dissemination of information to farmers.
There are 12,000 MPCS in Karnataka covering thousands of villages. In the first stage, Rs 2 crore would be spent on initiating the project in Bangalore (rural) and Chickballapur districts in the state.
Sources say the Bangalore University has lately been active training thousands of farmers, extension workers and organizing hundreds of field level demonstrations.
The university has also been able to popularize new technologies for inclusion in package of practices, claim sources.
