Distribution of loans and financial assistance to beneficiaries and shields to the best performing co-operative societies marked the 62nd All India Co-operative Week celebrations at Paramakudi in Tamil Nadu, reports Hindu.
Member of Parliament A Anwar Raja distributed shields to the best performing co-operative societies in the absence of the state cooperation minister who was busy planning efforts to rescue people caught in rains.
The Co-operative department has provided jewel loans of Rs 1849.71 crore to 4.05 lakh people through Central Cooperative bank and Rs 900.12 crore to 2.31 lakh people through Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies (PACCS).
The department has also started five cooperative pharmacies and two Amma pharmacies and offered medicines to the people at 15 per cent discount, said the Member of Parliament.
