Co-op Scam: Former Nepal Home Minister gets bail

The Kaski District Court granted bail of 6.5 million Nepali rupees to former Nepal Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane amid a cooperative scam case.

Despite bail, Lamichhane remains in custody as investigations continue in Butwal, Chitwan, Kathmandu, and Parsa. He faces embezzlement charges, accused of diverting deposits to Gorkha Media Network, which managed the now-defunct Galaxy 4K Television.

His parliamentary position is suspended after allegations of amassing over Rs 270 million illicitly. The case highlights concerns over governance and accountability in Nepal’s cooperative sector.
