Asian Age reports Maharashtra BJP’s decision to field allegedly corrupt and outsider Praveen Darekar chairman of Mumbai cooperative bank for legislative council elections has ruffled party workers’ feathers.
Darkar is alleged to have swindled an amount of Rs 123 crore from the cooperative bank. The report adds various anti-graft agencies are probing his involvement in hanky panky transactions.
Darekar, a former legislator of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) lost the 2014 assembly polls and later joined BJP in January 2015.
A BJP functionary, in March last year had filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) against Darekar for alleged corruption worth Rs 123 crore in bank loan.
A source close to the BJP says the rank and file of the party have begun questioning the party’s decision as they feel it would greatly damage the reputation of the party with a difference.
