Stressing that the Cooperative sector is the best model for Bharat’s growth, GCMMF Managing Director R.S. Sodhi expounded at length on the merits of the cooperative model in an interview given to the magazine The Week.
Sodhi said Amul will expand its business. However, it will depend on how much milk it can get. Amul will invest in Gujarat and outside on multiple product categories, added Sodhi.
In the interview Sodhi said Amul spends Rs 800 crore to Rs.1 000 crores on expansion every year. In other words, Amul collects 9 percent more milk, which means 25 lakh liters.
The MD also talked of introducing two new technologies. One is sorted sex semen, which leads to 95 per cent of calves born being female and the second is embryo transplant, which helps to multiply the numbers of high-yielding cows.
