A curious situation has arisen threatening the prospects of elections in two district cooperative banks in Madhya Pradesh.
The Burhanpur and Khandwa district cooperative banks are to elect their directors soon but there are no registered voters.
As per a decision arrived at in 2013, only the bodies that have made contributions to the bank could take part in the polls. Since none of the bodies have chipped in their donations over the last several years , their representatives could not exercise their voting rights.
Both the banks are in a situation that is not easy to come out of. Sources say only the annulment of the 2013 decision could end the anomalous situation paving the way for elections.
