Terming growing inequality between urban and rural areas worrisome, GCMMF managing director R S Sodhi has advocated the strengthening of the cooperatives business model in the country with a view to ensuring the development of small farmers, workers, retailers, and consumers, reports a news outlet.
GCMMF, the country’s leading dairy cooperative, sells milk and other dairy products under the Amul brand.
Sodhi was speaking in a conference organized by industry body CII, Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) and International Labour Organization (ILO).
Batting for a new deal for peripheral India, Sodhi underlined the importance of the cooperative model of business in the context of changing the Indian countryside.
Sodhi said it was extremely encouraging to see that the cooperative sector was lately gaining salience in national conversation.
