According to media reports coming from the Karnal district of Haryana, over five lakh farmers are associated with 90 cooperative societies of the said district, out of which around 47k farmers are defaulters. Loans worth Rs 194 crore are outstanding.
According to department officials, 60 percent of farmers have died and this has made it even more difficult for the societies to recover the outstanding loans.
Giving his reaction, Karnal DCCB General Manager Sheetal Panu said, ” A large number of members of cooperative societies are becoming defaulters. Recovery notices have been issued to all of them “.
