Chief minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated 100 new godowns through video conferencing from the state secretariat. The godowns are constructed at the level of primary agriculture cooperative societies (PACS) in villages of different districts.
The godowns would be used for storage of fertilizers, seeds and paddy and other agriculture products procured from farmers, reports Times of India.
Addressing the gathering, Naveen said the state government spends around Rs 34 lakh for construction of each godowns. Emphasizing the role of PACS for development of farmers in Odisha, Naveen said the government is committed for strengthening the agriculture societies, he said.
In Odisha, cooperative societies take a pioneering role in distribution of farm loans. Around 65 per cent farm loans are being distributed through the cooperative societies.
