Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a virtual review meeting with state Agriculture Ministers to discuss key initiatives and set future goals for agricultural development.
He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to tripling efforts in the third term and emphasized fast-paced growth in agriculture and farmer welfare. The sector’s growth rate for 2023-24 is projected at 3.5–4%, driven by strategies like boosting production, cost reduction, technology adoption, and promoting micro-irrigation and natural farming.
Chouhan lauded the success of schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM Crop Insurance, and fertilizer subsidies. He shared achievements such as distributing Rs 3.46 lakh crore to 11 crore farmers, insuring 602 lakh hectares, and procuring significant food grains under MSP.
He noted a sharp decline in rural poverty to 4.86% in FY24 and announced modernized crop loss assessments using satellite technology. The meeting focused on budgetary suggestions and collaborative efforts to further strengthen the agriculture sector.
