A multi-state cooperative – the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative (CAMPCO) has notched up the biggest annual turnover ever in several decades of its existence.
The cooperative with operations in the Southern states of Karnataka and Kerala has done business worth Rs 1,200 crore in 2013-14. Sources say the turnover is just remarkable.
Konkodi Padmanabha , president of the cooperative said the unprecedented turnover was due to the fact that the company could do a huge business selling areca nut, chocolate, rubber, cashew nut and some other nuts in the last fiscal.
Experts, however, point out a high price of areca nut as the most important reason responsible for this grand success.
