Campco has urged the Karnataka government to suggest to Central government that it should exclude arecanut and pepper from the scope of the RCEP negotiations.
In a press release sent to Indian Cooperative it says Campco has sent a letter to the state chief minister saying this is needed to protect the interests of farmers as the country is self-sufficient in the production of arecanut and pepper.
Satishchandra, president of Campco has added in the letter that farmers are already facing problems due to a steep fall in prices vis-à-vis high cost of production.
India produces more than 50 per cent of world production of arecanut. Karnataka is the state producing the largest amount of arecanut.
