The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a new Brownfield Ammonia-Urea Complex in Namrup, Assam. Rs 10,601.40 crore project will be developed by a joint venture under the New Investment Policy, 2012.
Union Minister Amit Shah lauded the decision, stating that it would boost the rural economy by ensuring an adequate fertilizer supply and strengthening the Northeast’s export potential.
The complex, with an annual production capacity of 12.7 Lakh Metric Tonnes, will be set up within the premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL). It is expected to be completed in 48 months and generate employment.
The project will cater to fertilizer demand in the Northeast, Bihar, West Bengal, Eastern UP, and Jharkhand, enhancing India’s self-reliance in urea production.
