The news reports are coming from Dhaurahra tehsil Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh are that cooperative societies and private shopkeepers are looting farmers by black marketing Urea.
Due to the lack of urea in co-ops, farmers are forced to buy urea at the rate of Rs 400 per bag. One of the cooperatives secretaries said demand has been sent to the companies but urea has not been supplied yet.
District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh claimed that 225 raids were conducted in Kharif season and reports have been lodged against shopkeepers under the essential commodities act. While licenses of five shops were suspended, notices were given to 15 shopkeepers.
