BJP is using the last bit of its power to end the influence of Congress and NCP from cooperative bodies in Bombay, reports HT. Praveen Darekar who runs the Mumbai district co-operative bank and is the chief of BJP’s co-operative wing was assigned with the task.
The party is involving women and youth in cooperatives to achieve this goal. Sources say BJP will form 5,000 youth societies with 1.25 lakh youths and 3,000 women co-operative societies with 75,000 women.
Though BJP has a say in the co-op banking sector, its hold on sugar co-ops are relatively less dominating. NCP has greater influence in sugar co-ops, sources add. BJP is eager to change the matrix before Lok Sabha elections.
