Bihar’s BJP leader Amrendra Pratap Singh is the new minister for agriculture, cooperatives and sugarcane. He was sworn in on Tuesday.
Singh won the Arrah Assembly seat defeating Quyamuddin Ansari from Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) with a margin of 3002 votes.
In the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, Singh lost his seat to Mohammad Nawaz Alam of the Rashtriya Janata Dal. He was the deputy speaker of the assembly from 2012–2015.
A prominent member of the old Jan Sangh in the Jharkhand region, Singh had worked closely with Raghubar Das the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
