The election of Mumbai based Bharat Cooperative Bank is slated for 2nd October 2018. The final list of candidates left in the fray was declared late evening on Saturday.
Elaborating the process of election A.K.Chavan, Additional Registrar (Cooperative Society) and Returning officer said to this correspondent, ” In total 27 nominations were received; 24 from the general category, 1 from SC/ST category and 2 for women category.”
“The members of the bank are entitled to vote in the election of 20 candidates i.e.17 from General category, 1 from SC/ST category and 2 from women category”, Chavan informed.
During the scrutiny a candidate Uday Chitale’s nomination paper for the general category was found invalid. After the scrutiny, 23 candidates altogether were left in the fray for the general category.
Chavan further said, on the day of withdrawal four candidates from the general category withdrew their names. Now the fate of 19 candidates from the general category will be decided on 2nd October. Voters have to elect 17 directors
It is noted that a candidate Anbalagan Harijan from the SC/ST category and Sharada Karkera and Rohini Salian from the Women category have been elected unopposed. So, the polling will not be held for these two categories.
As per the election program, “Polling and counting of votes would be held on 2nd and 4th October, 2018. The result would be announced on 5th October.
It is being reported that the present chairman Jaya Suvarna has been the chairman of the bank since two terms but he cannot seek a third term if he has to get elected as per the act.
There are 1,74,184 people who are eligible to cast their votes during the election.
Bharat Cooperative Bank has about 101 branches across Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat. In the last FY 2017-18 the bank earned a net profit to the tune of Rs 93.38 crore.
The list of candidates include Lingappa Amin, Somnath Amin, Satish Bangera, Purushotham Kotian, Vasudeva Kotian, Jaya Kotian, Premnath Kotian, Damodar Kunder, Narayan Poojari, Gangadhar Poojary, Koragappa Poojary, Mohandas Poojary, Shivaji Poojary, Bhaskar Salian, Jaya Suvarna, Jyoti Suvarna, Narayana Suvarna, Rohit Suvarna and Suryakant Suvarna.
