A court in Beed district of Maharashtra has granted anticipatory bail to NCP leader Dhananjay Munde, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, in connection with a loan scam, reports Press Trust of India.
A case had been registered a couple of years ago in Beed against Munde and others. The allegation was Sant Jagmitra Cooperative Cotton Mill, of which Munde was one of the directors, took loans of over Rs 10 crore from the Beed District Cooperative Bank, and defaulted on repayment.
In the application, Munde the Leader of the Opposition said if he was arrested, it would damage his political career. The cooperative which took loans has largely repaid the amount and its properties are mortgaged with the bank. He could not therefore cheat the bank, he said.
Additional District Judge accepted the argument and granted anticipatory bail to him.
