Once again there is news about a cooperative society engaging in philanthropy. Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) based in Kerala has donated ten lakh rupees to the Chief Minister’s relief fund for the Ockhi cyclone affected people recently in Thiruvananthapuram.
ULCCS Chairman Rameshan Paleri and Managing Director Shaju S handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Readers would recall Cyclone Ockhi battered coastal areas of the southern states and the government officials claiming over 33,000 people in Kerala alone had been affected by the cyclone in December last year.
The social media handle of ULCCS has shared the news with photographs writing “31 January 2018,Trivandrum, #ULCCS Chairman Remeshan Paleri, MD Shaju S and Dr. TP Sethumadhavan UL Education Director handing over check worth ten lakh rupees to Chief Minister’s Okhi distress release fund”.
It bears recall that ULCCS was launched with 14 members with an initial investment of 37 paise in 1925 in Vadakara in Kozhikode district. After building airports, roads and dams, it got an ULCCS Cyber Park inaugurated by then President of India Mr Pranab Mukerjee.
