The bank fraud sword of Democles has begun hanging over Dhananjay Munde the newly elected leader of opposition in the Maharashtra council.
Mr. Munde who earlier chaired a cooperative had taken loans of several thousands crores of rupees from the Beed District Central Bank (BDCC) using his political influence. However, he went on defaulting on his payments with impunity.
The BDCC finally lodged an FIR with the local police against him in 2013. Meanwhile, the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court has stayed the granting of interim bail to him in connection with the scam.
Sources say the court’s order means after getting approval from the chairman of the Maharashtra council the police can arrest Munde any time.
Munde happens to be a close relative of late BJP leader Gopinath Munde and an important leader of Sharad Pawar’s NCP.
