In an RTI response Nabard says it has found a smaller quantum of NPAs with district central cooperative banks in 20 states than the latter had reported for 2015-16. Nabard put NPAs at Rs. 16 417 crore while DCCBs had calculated bad loans to the tune of Rs 22,695 crore, reports Financial Express.
Sources say in several instances, Nabard has said the gross NPAs are ‘not available’. It is not clear whether Nabard has the data or not. The deposits of DCCBs had surged after demonetization in mid-November 2016.
In 2015, the accumulated losses of DCCBs were Rs 3,986 crore, data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showed.
