IT Commissioner (Appeals) in a ruling has said that unaccounted amount of Rs. 8.5 crore, found during a raid on Arihant Credit Cooperative in Borgaon village in Chikkodi taluk in Karnataka belonged to the former legislator and BJP leader Abhay Patil, reports Hindu.
IT officials had found documents that had names of depositors including that of Patil. When queried bank officials had admitted the money belonged to Patil. A team led by an assistant commissioner of IT, had conducted the raid in the past.
However, Patil denies having deposited any money in the society. He says he will challenge the ruling at the Income tax tribunal. Meanwhile, a social activist has urged the government and the election commission to take action against the former BJP legislator.
