The AP Amul Dairy project will start its operations in 108 villages of Guntur district from March 1, reports New Indian Express.
AP Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Ahmed Babu said the tie-up with the Amul Dairy would eliminate the middlemen from the dairy sector as well as get farmers remunerative prices.
Sources say the Amul Dairy project will also strengthen the cooperative movement as a network of milk cooperative societies with women managing them will soon come up in the area.
Already Sangam Dairy which was formed on cooperative basis is functioning smoothly inthe district. It’s members are happy and satisfied with its services. State Government bringing in Amul by giving a lot of incentives is a political move to weaken Sangam which is controlled by opposition party. Amul should not have become a party in this political game. If the dairy farmers are going to benefits from this competition, it is welcome. But a level playing field is necessary for such competitions.
