GCMMF, the owner of Amul remembered the Milk Man on his 75th death anniversary by issuing a catchy topical which read “He gave us our fundamental white!”
GCMMF Managing Director R S Sodhi tweeted the topical and wrote “Remembering Dr Kurien for his stellar contribution in making India the largest producer of @milk in the world and creating our most loved brand Amul”.
Kurien, the man who did India proud by writing a script of white revolution through co-operatives was, before anything else a votary of empowerment of the downtrodden. Amul was his baby and through it he liberated millions of farmers from the clutches of poverty.
In the process, he also restored the pride of the cooperative model and proved its superiority compared to capitalist or command economy.
India’s milk production jumped from 20 million tonnes a year in the 1960s to 122 million tonnes in 2011 under Kurien’s charge, writes the Telegraph. Sodhi has further taken down his vision to make Indian the largest producer of dairy in the world.
GCMMF was joined by many others including IFFCO in remembering the Milk Man. An IFFCO PR’s tweet hailed him as a great co-operator.
