Amul fights back; High Court directs removal of post

The Delhi High Court has directed a woman from Noida to remove her social media posts that accused a centipede of being found in a tub of Amul ice cream.

The court also issued a restraining order, prohibiting her from making any similar claims on social media platforms until further orders are given.

The legal action was initiated by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, which markets its products under the Amul brand. The company contended that the allegation was baseless, emphasizing that it was virtually impossible for any foreign object to be present in their ice cream due to the stringent quality controls at their production facilities.

Despite multiple opportunities provided by the court for the woman to substantiate her claim, she did not participate in the legal proceedings nor did she allow the disputed ice cream tub to be examined for verification.

Consequently, the court ruled in favour of Amul, highlighting the company’s adherence to strict safety standards and procedures that ensure product integrity, as affirmed by their ISO certification and compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
