The cooperative sector has contributed its share in the Upper House with at least two newly elected members from its fraternity, according to the recently announced results.
While Narhari Amin the younger brother of NCUI Vice-Chairman G H Amin was elected on a BJP ticket from Gujarat, Rajasthan State Urban Cooperative Federation (Rafcub) Chairman Rajendra Gehlot was declared elected from Rajasthan. Interestingly both belong to the BJP.
“With the winning of these candidates co-ops get the chance to raise their voice in the upper house. We are sure that they will work for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country”, some co-operators reacted to their victory.
Gehlot Chairman of Rafcub is also the Chairman of Jodhpur Nagrik Sahakari Bank, Jodhpur. He had also been a BJP member of Rajasthan state assembly from Sardarpura.
Amin who joined BJP in 2012 was not accorded any important position for a long time despite Narendra Modi having a soft corner for him. Now with a RS seat in his pocket he can think of playing a bigger role.
It bears recall that RS already has a representation from the co-op sector in NCUI President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, who belongs to the Samajwadi party.
