Nepal’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has demanded government attention to the grievances of cooperative victims and depositors.
Emphasizing citizens’ rights to peaceful protest, the NHRC called for immediate action on a report submitted to the Prime Minister six months ago.
Concerns were raised over police use of force during a peaceful demonstration in Kathmandu on March 14th, injuring protesters including Kushal KC, chairperson of the National Campaign for Protection of Cooperatives, who is on a hunger strike.
With KC’s health deteriorating, the NHRC urged dialogue and sensitivity from the government towards cooperative victims’ concerns.
